"So what about you, Baby Pawz?" Lakota's yellow optics flicked from Strider to the other pup, then to the pup's father, who'd been silent the whole time. "It'd be good experience, you know. . ." The raven pelted fae added, speaking to Anarchy.
((I don't have to take anymore English classes, but I have a minimum 8 page paper on Carlsbad Caverns next Wednesday. We drew days and times for our presentations, and it just so happened that I got April 27th at 11:30 am, which is the first presentation of the first day. Me and my good luck, huh?))

An inquisitive white face peeked out from behind a small, stunted bush, followed by a sleek white frame belonging to a young she-wolf. Jewel smiled at Keeper and trotted over, dipping her head in respect to the new alphen.
"Hello, I'm Jewel, congratulations on becoming alpha."
She smiled and then turned and surveyed all the other wolves with sparking blue occuli. Her gaze rested on the two pups and she grinned before trotting over to Baby-Pawz and Strider.
"Your first hunt, eh?"
She asked brightly. She then sank to her haunches and waited patiently for the hunt to begin.

Keeper nodded 'wards Jewel.
"Thanks, milady."
He swished his tassel and moved towards the pups, and chuckled at their eagerness. He co-cked his head inquisitivly.
"So, are we ready for your big hunt?" He asked, looked down at the small pups.

Lakota took this momentary lull in activity as her cue to slip away. Quietly she slunk from the small gathering of wolves, moon yellow occuli flicking to each of the full grown wolven present, resting a bit longer with Keeper so he would catch the hint that she was going to send the prey running by soon.
Quickly and nearly silently she faded within the trees and brush again. Her nares followed the scent of rabbits to its source. Eyes lighted on the three victims; who were nibbling dandelions in a patch of sunlight. :: Perfect:: Lakota thought. :: All three of them together. What I like about groups of rabbits is they never scatter when frightened. They always run one after another.:: She crept a semi circle around them, who paid no attention to her because they couldn't hear her. But soon they would.
She gave a shrill yip, one: to inform the other wolven that the prey was about to go rushing by, and two: to get the rabbits oriented in the direction opposite her voice which was exactly the way she wanted them to go.
Her yip had the desired effect. All three of the brown rabbits perked their heads, large eyes and ears staring straight in Lakota's direction. At this point, she intentionally wagged her tail a bit to rustle the leaves around her. Like clockwork, the rabbits all ran, in precisely the direction she wanted them to. :: Know yourself, know your prey. . .and know a good meal!::
She blasted off after the frightened rabbits, who'd taken to running a straight line single file. They had a head start, but Lakota had longer legs, and soon caught up with the one bringing up the rear. A quick flash of black fur and white fangs disposed of the last one in line. :: I'll just keep this one behind in case the pups don't suceed. At least they'll have something to eat. And if they do suceed, I could have it delivered to one of the mothers.:: She thought, with a brown rabbit hangling limply from her jaws. ::I just hope those pups can get at least on of those other rabbits. They are fat and slow from the dandelions.::

Keeper nodded 'wards Lakota and slowly winked at her.
"Get ready, pups. For here comes your prey!" He boomed happily, watching the rabbits come full tilt at the pups

Cloudshadow stopped padding around the clearing. She had felt the "call of nature" (if you know what I mean). She had to go to the bathroom. Cloud quietly slipped off, hoping to get back before the hunt had begun.

ooc: lol Sorry, I've had writer's block, plus no time! Not a good combination! bic: Strider eagerly waited, he'd been waiting so long for this moment. At the signal, he sprang into action, legs pumping, head low to have minimum wind resistance, and sprinted after the prey, focusing on the one on the right. His jaws snapped, then clicked together with an empty clack, but he hadn't slowed, and continued his chase. Adrenaline pumping through him, Strider had a sudden rush of excitement and energy, surging forward suddenly. His jaws grasped the rabbit, wounding it, before it wriggled away, but now injured, and one hindquarter bleeding heavily. With a victorious bark, he rushed the prey once again.

Jewel sighed, noticing that the hunt was being delayed greatly. She felt her stomach growl and got to her feet, decididng that something had to be done. Trotting briskly up to the alpha, thye white femme dipped her maw before speaking.
"M'lord, I'm sure the alphess and other mothers are becoming hungry. If you like, I could stay here and supervise the pup's hunt, and you could take the rest of the group for the real one."
She said, glancing over her shoulder at Strider and Baby-pawz. She returned her sapphire gaze to Keeper and cocked ehr head, awaiting his judgement.

The raven tinted fae Lakota ran up just as the first pup took off after a rabbit. Her mouth was full 'o the first prize of the pups' hunt, the rabbit she'd picked off in case the pups weren't successful. She padded quickly to where Jewel was speaking with the Alpha, Keeper. Jewel appeared to have just finished asking him something. Lakota only caught the word hungry.
Faded yellow optics flicked from Jewel to Keeper and down to the prey 'twixt her daggers, then placed it before them, giving a slight nod to both.
"Have I missed anything? Are the pups doing well?" She inquired, then glanced o'er her shoulder to see their tails disappear after the rabbit. She heard a rabbit squeal, :: Must be doing good enough, I suppose.:: A slight grin formed on her maw, happy that another generation was learning the skills to keep the pack alive.

Keeper dipped his maw 'wards Jewel and sighed. It was getting a bit late. His own stilts where getting a bit stiff too.
"Yes, Jewel. That's a mighty good idea. Thanks!" he answered as he turned towards Lakota.
"Are you ready, Lead Hunter?" He asked her, his tassel swishing in anticipation. Without awaiting her response, he began to move forward.
"Lead the way, Lakota!" He barked, his blue orbs gleaming in anticipation.

Her plume swept the air, she was estatic to finally be taking down something large. :: Even if it is the most dangerous prey a pack could hunt.:: She reminded herself.
She took a deep breath, obsidian chest puffing out; to calm herself, to make sure she had enough air going to her brain, and to scent the caribou on the wind. She slowly released it, gears working in her mind.
:: The pup's hunt took too long. The caribou have moved farther than I anticipated. They're gonna be right on the northeastern borders by now.::
She trotted forward, cranium alternately dipping to the earth and stretching to the air, tracing the caribou's path. Lakota looked back at Jewel and Keeper, her expression serious now, no more of the wild anticipation since the caribou were moving quickly and Lakota didn't want to miss them. She met each of their eyes, and gesture with her maw for them to follow close.
She ducked in some brush, cautious to high step and not alert the prey that they were approaching. Black auds perked for'ard when she at last caught up to them, and heard the deep bellow of a full grown male. :: Uh oh. A male. The deadliest.::
She peeked from the leaves of the short scrub, moon colored occuli noticing a sleek male, large and strong with a full rack of antlers. With him were two females. One was healthy, and the male and the healthy female seemed to be guarding the other female, whose front leg was swollen, perhaps from an infected bite wound.
::That explains a lot. Caribou this far south is unusual anyway. And males are very protective over their females, maybe the other female is her sister? We can't go after the male, he'd kill us. The healthy female would run, the injured one would be the easiest, but someone has to distract the male and other female first.:: She calculated, eyes never leaving the three large prey. :: Wait. If we go after the male, then only the healthy female will charge us, the injured one will see that she is being ignored and try to rest. But the male is so much more risky. But he also has more meat on him for the nursing females.::
Quietly she explained the situation to other two.
"The injured one seems the easiest, but if we take her, the healthy female and male will try to defend her. One of us will have to distract both of them, cause we need two wolves at least to take down even an injured one. On the other hand," Lakota continued, catching her breath as adrenaline started to run through her again," If we all three go for the male, then only the healthy female will try to defend him. The injured one will take the opportunity to rest and maybe graze. But the male is much more dangerous then the females. Which would you rather risk?" She asked of them.

Keeper blinked and surveyed the situation carefully. You are the alpha, they depend on you. You make the decision... Keeper closed his orbs and sighed, then opened them agian and looked at Lakota.
"I'm really not for sure. Which would be best in youur opionon? Which would be the easiest to do without the loss of our own?" He asked carefully.

Lakota chewed on this for a moment. :: The alpha is giving me a decision? Goodness, I hope I don't choose wrong, it could mean the end of us!::
She mulled over the possibilities of what could go wrong, what Caribou were capable of when angry or frightened. She never seen a wolf killed by one, but had heard enough tales to believe in their strength.
The black fae turned from Keeper's gaze to study the caribou once more. The male was agitated, circling the two females. The healthy female was nudging the rump of the injured one. The injured one had it's head down, obviously struggling to keep going, trying to get out of wolf territory as fast as she could. :: Their pack works a lot like ours.:: Lakota thought, :: They take care of each other, whereas deer or dumb prey just abandon the weak.::
Either situation will put us in grave danger, but they have slowed down now. . .look." She gestured with a paw t'ward the maimed female. If we take the injured one now, we will have both the male and the female after us. They defend their sick." She explained, quietly. the male was bellowing a deep tuba call, covering up any other sounds. Lakota could have yelled if she wanted and not been heard.
"The injured one is no use, she wouldn't be able to fight if we took the male or the other female," She raised her voice now, speaking to both wolves with her.If we attack the male, only the female will fight, besides him. But he will be at a disadvantage if we all for him at once. He won't know where to rake his antlers first. The female is still very powerful, but not as strong as if we attacked her and had the male coming after us." She stopped, taking a deep breath and trying to relax. Lakota didn't want to say that all three of them would probably sustain injuries, more so than with deer."So in my opinion, I say the male. I'd rather be on the back of the one with the antlers, then have my back to those same antlers."

Keeper sighed, weighing the possibilities. If we take the male, we would have to really worry about him attacking us. Only the female would. Plus, the mothers would have alot more meat for the cubs. Big risk, but not too much of one.
"Okay, Lakota. I trust your judgement. You are older than me and wiser, so we will take that route." Keeper turned to the wolves that had followed them and addressed them directly.
"We are going to take the male down. If we attack the weak female, we will get attacked by the two of them. If we attack the bull, then we won't have to worry about his antlers taking us from behind."
Keeper met each of the wolven's gaze, then turned.
"Let us go then and let Fate be with us."

((Look up Caribou on Google or another search engine. They can weigh up to 700 pounds and females have antlers, but their antlers are much smaller. They can be 6 feet tall. I have to go, but will reply after I get off work.))
