Ooc| Wow ... I really can't believe how unrealistic this is ... but oh well it gets better ~grins knowingly~
Bic| Lou let out a small whine. She could see the Sixth Cave ahead but it seemed such a long way away ... Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to plough onward, her steps uneven due to her swan-hued belly which had gradually swolen over the past few weeks until it looked like she had swallowed a deer whole.
"Nearly there, nearly there ..." she told herself, her words spilling out in gasps.
After another few minutes, Lou had finally reached her destination, her ebonite claws clicking as she scrambled across the cold stone floor of the cave, trying to find a suitable corner in which to lay. There was faint smell in here which she recognised as the Alpha Female's; Taint had been here also with her cubs.
Lou released another whimper as she slowly and awkwardly lowered herself into a laying position upon the cave floor, feeling very hot and uncomfortable yet she had some kind of instinct which told her this was what she had to do ...

Breathing became suddenly easier to the female white wolf as she lay, now comfortably. She found the cold floor cooling and refreshing and a small smile spread across her tired face.
A small whimper alerted her attention and Lou lifted her creamy dial to see four little bundles lying by her belly. Her dark occuli began to glistened whith tears of happiness as she studied each one. The first, lying closest to her front legs, had a snowy peltage, identical to her own. After close inspection Lou discovered it was female. The second, with its head on its sister's neck, also had a mostly white pelt but it was decorated with the odd, dark-brown colored splodge. A male. The third, lying strangely with its belly in the air, was female and completely brown, (Like its father, Lou acknowledged) and the final cub was mostly black with a singular brown paw. He was the youngest and was male. Lou remembered that her father had had an ebon pelt which he'd passed on to Bullet as well. This made the eldest Scarlet sibling smile as she nuzzled each cub affectionately.

Nearly... there. Must... Have to... Don't want to... alone... so... tired.
Dull sapphire eyes gazed into the depths of the cave, looking many years to old for the pretty face they belonged to. These eyes had once sparkled, gleamed with youth and joy. But those days were past.
Dirty white legs shook slightly, and head and tail sagged. Belly bulged, straining against a thick, wolven hide. Filled with life, filled with joy, filled with hope.
A soft whimper caused a pair of dirt encrusted auds to perk suddenly, and the wolfess took a step forward, peering hard into the shadows. What she saw caused her to gasp. There, lying on the floor of the cave was... her sister.
"Lou?" Jewel whispered, staggering into the cave and plonking her rump upon the floor. She was unreconisable. Her belly was huge, and her usually beautiful coat was ragged and unkempt, the tips of her fur encrusted with mud.
Jewel observed her sister with unreadable eyes. Once apon a time, Lou would have been able to read everything going on in her younger sister's head. But times had changed, Jewel had been forced to grow up.
"C-congratulations..." Jewel said, then slumped into a lying position, utterly exhausted.
A sudden, exruciating pain filled her stomach, and Jewel gasped, curling in on herself, eyes screwed shut. She had been having contractions for a while now, and knew that soon she would be giving birth. Her pelvis felt as if someone had pressed a red hot poker against it.
Then, the pain was gone. Just like that. Jewel whined softly, lifting her head to stare at her sister.
"I-I have nephews and neices, Lou?" She asked, crawling forwards slowly to gaze at the tiny bundles of fur. And all at once her eyes softened, she smiled up at her sister. "They're beautiful."

Lou gave each cub a lick across the dial. She had already thought of names for them. If Achilles had any objections, he could talk to her about it later.
"Hedwig," she said softly to the first, completely white cub, "Afisch,-" (the second) "-Robynn,-" (the third) "-and Flynn." Once more she gazed lovingly at her children. Her children! Lou had to hold down the small squeak of happiness which had threatened to erupt inside her- she did not want to wake her little ones.
It was then that a noise startled her. She looked up and saw a figure enter the cave. Imediately her hackles raised and she released a threatening growl, the stench of mud clogging her nares.
Lou?
She recognisd that voice. Her hackles flattened and her smile ventured back across her maw.
"Jewel!" Lou yipped happily, "Isn't it wonderfull? And yes these are your nephews and nieces; Hedwig, Afish, Robynn and Flynn. " the chalky femme smiled once more at her younglings before suddenly noticing her sister's protruding belly.
"Why Jewel, it's nearly time!" she said in alarm. Was it really that long ago the two sisters were having that talk?

Jewel nodded, absorbing the pups names like a sponge absorbs water. They were all so lovely... she could only hope that her pups would be as healthy. If they were, then perhaps she could be happy again. She could start afresh. She would make sure her children were happy.
"Yes," Jewel agreed, snapped out of her reverie by Lou's alarmed voice. And, as if prompted by the beta female’s words, another contraction suddenly tore at Jewel’s belly, causing her to whine aloud in pain. She gasped for air, crawling away from Lou, so that she could lie on her side. Her body was rigid, and sweat broke on her forehead, trickling into her eyes, which she soon closed tightly.
"L-Lou! I-I… Arrrrrgh!" Jewel jerked strangely, her muscles convulsing. She strained her stomach muscles suddenly, pushing as hard as she could, and pain like nothing she had ever imagined shot through her, but no sound escaped her lips. She bit her lip hard, drawing blood, and pushed again, despite the pain.
Something happened then. She felt something. Encouraged, she pushed again, and again, each time causing more pain to erupt inside her. Her body was stiff, her sides heaving.
It’s not going right! The thought exploded in her head, and she was suddenly desperate. She had to get her cubs out! She couldn’t bear it! Must… I must…
Talons scrabbled against the stone floor. Jewel’s head felt close to exploding, never mind the rest of her body. And she was so very tired.
Give up, A soft, soothing voice echoed within her skull, and the youngest Scarlet sibling felt a moment of relief from her agony. But it was only a second. Give up, The voice said again, and Jewel found herself drifting slowly away from the pain. Disataching herself from her battered, broken body…
NO! The white wolfess was snapped back to reality. She had to get her cubs out! She must! Come one, Jewel, COME ON!
Jewel Scarlet was suddenly filled with blazing determination. It gave her energy, and she used it gratefully, muscles straining.
Suddenly, their was an empty feeling in her womb. There was still something there… but not everything. Jewel gasped in surprise and relief. The first pup was down. How many more to go?
The pain subsided for a moment, giving Jewel time to slowly lift her head. Lying by her side was a tiny pup. It was still encased in a strange sack, and Jewel quickly licked this off, desperate to take care of the pup before the pain returned. As soon as the cub was free of the sack, she took to licking it vigerously, helping its breathing.
Come on! Come on! Hurry! Hu- A loud, high pitched whine was released and Jewel’s head slumped, just as the tiny, newborn cub’s sides began to rise and fall.
The creamy femme clenched her teeth. She had one pup, and she would have the rest. Whatever it took. And so, she pushed. Again. Hard.
This pup was slightly easier than the first, although something about it felt…wrong. It left Jewel exhausted. Her womb was now empty, the work was over. But the pain wasn’t. Instead of subsiding, it was slowly growing fiercer, engulfing her whole body. She whimpered, struggling to lift her head and to slowly lick her second and last pup free of its sack. Then her tongue was rasping over damp fur, but the pups sides refused to move. It lay motionless, eyes closed.
No! Please, no! Come on! Jewel’s licks grew more desperate, the pain in her body threatening to blot out her thoughts. When she finally thought she could take no more pain, that she should just give up, the pup’s mouth opened and it drew a breath.
Thank Tor! Jewel thought, her head slumping to the floor. She drew on her last reserves of strength – which was not much at all – and fixed her gaze on her pups. A soft, incredbley happy smile spread across her maw, and she sighed. The first pup born was white, pure white, like her mother. The second was inky black. Jewel’s eyelids drooped, smile still spread across her maw.
"I love you," Jewel whispered, and one of the pups squirmed towards her belly. Another sigh was released, contented and final, and then Jewel slipped away. Her soul slid easily from her body, and her eyes closed. She found herself drifting away from the cave, and the world around her began to fade. Sapphire eyes once again sparkled, and her pelt was lush and snowy white, the mud gone. Forgotten.
You did it, Jewel, A voice said, and the white wolfess smiled. She had done it. She didn't have to worry any more. No more pain. No more sorrow. No more regrets. She had done it. And now, Jewel Scarlet was gone. Forever.

Lou was about to offer comforting words to her sister when Jewel suddenly let out a yell. For a second, Lou was alarmed once more, but she realised that it was just the contractions.
"It's ok Jewel, it's ok," she said softly, craning her neck forward to touch her nose to her sister's maw, "you can do it ..." Dark occuli were fixed on Jewel and Lou wished she could do something as her sister pushed.
The chalky femme couldn't believe that she had gone through the same experiance just moments before. Surely it hadn't been that bad?
At that moment, the first pup was brought into the world.
"Well done, Jewel!" Lou praised, "Keep going, keep going ..."
She watched as her sister licked the newborn cub. Jewel was so tired and so young ...
Lou stretched herself forward and began to help her with the licking. As soon as the cub began to breath normaly, Lou gently picked it up and placed it against her own belly, worried that Jewel might not be able to produce enough milk. She nudged it between Hedwig and Afisch so that it could suckle before turning her attention back on her sister.
Another cub had arrived! Lou instantly began to lick again. But ... nothing was happening.
Please no ... the she-wolf's thoughts moaned in her head. She couldn't bare it if her sister lost one of her cubs. Sure enough, the cub began to breath, it's little mouth opening and closing.
Relief surged through her.
"Look Jewel! Aren't they beautiful?" she nudged the lucky pup towards Jewel's belly, before picking out the other cub from her own and placing it next to its sibling. Lou smiled warmly at them. Like Jewel, she too had a niece and nephew.
Creamy auditis flicked as she heard her sister mutter someting. She gazed at her sister's closed lids.
"Jewel?"
Poor thing, she must be exhausted.
"What are you going to call them?" Lou asked, beaming at Jewel's cubs. One black and one white. Similar to Hedwig and Flynn.
No answer came from the youngest Scarlet sibling.
"Jewel?" Lou said again, nudging her sister's chin. Jewel's head fell limply against the cold cave floor.
"Oh no ... "
Hedwig let out a little whimper. Lou was staring at Jewel, disbelief etched onto her face ...
"Jewel, wake up! Wake up, Jewel!" she began to continually nudge her sister's face, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Hedwig whimpred again and Lou felt her child burying her head in her white fur as if she knew something was wrong. The white fae picked up Jewel's cubs once more one by one, placing them against her stomach, tears still glistening on her cheeks. Jewel was gone. Her lively little sister was gone.
And it's all October's fault! Rage suddenly fired up inside her but she pushed it away. She shouldn't blame anybody ...
"Oh Jewel ... " Lou said quietly, closing her eyes, "your cubs ... your beautiful cubs ... I'll take care of them Jewel ... " Her lids then opened as she looked upon her niece and nephew. They needed names.
The white cub ... white like her mother ... Lou gulped and the name came to her.
"I shall call you Jewel after your mother ..." she whispered before turning her head slowly to the black cub. "And you I name Pheonix; life rising up out of the ashes ..."
Lou gulped agian, her glistening eyes once more on her sister before throwing back her head and emitting a piercing, bone-chilling howl, her grief flying like a bird over the lands of Misty Moors.

Dark auds, that had been drooping, suddenly perked, dull emerald eyes brighening. A grief stricken howl echoed over the Misty Moors terra.
Lou! Bullet leapt to his feet as if he had been lying on a bed of needles. He had been moping - as usual. But the dull feeling that he usually harboured was gone now, replaced by overwhelming panic. There was something wrong with his sister!
And, just like that, the old Bullet surfaced. Worry, mingled with fierce determination, filled Bullet's jade eyes, and his talons flexed. As the last note of the howl faded, he was bounding towards it source, muscles pumping, head lowered to stream line his figure.
Faster! His mind roared. One of his sister's was in trouble. He had to reach her. Nothing would ever happen to them. Not while he was around. Nothing!
"Lou!" Bullet barked, bursting into the sixth cave. He froze, stunned as he attempted to take in the scene before him. Lou had been pregnant... how had he not known? She had six puppies. Happy, healthy puppies. I-I'm an uncle, his maw broke into a broad smile, and he went to step towards his sister when his attention was suddenly steered towards Jewel, lying broken on the ground. Bullet's heart missed a beat.
"Jewel?" He asked softly, swallowing hard. His sister didn't move. Her eyes remained closed. Her sides weren't moving. She wasn't breathing. She was...
"NO!" Bullet was at her side in a second, tears streaming down his cheeks. He collapsed beside his youngest sister and buried his face in his fur, shoulder shaking as violent sobs racked his large body.
His head was thrown back, eyes screwed shut in pain.
"NO!" He howled, pouring all of his grief into the sound. Then, the note changed to one of anger.
I've been so ignorant! Bullet thought furiously, grinding his teeth. Ignorant to my sister's pain! If only I had been more supportive! I should've been there for her! He snarled, eyes blazing with fury, and leapt to his feet, throwing himself against the hard stone wall. He bounced off of it with a loud crack, and got to his feet, blood trickling from a gash in his forehead, only to repeat the action, barreling into the wall.
This time, as he rebounded off of the stone, his legs crumpled beneath him and he found himself lying on the ground, sides heaving. Blood trickled into his eyes, and he snarled. This wasn't enough! He should be dead, not Jewel! The pain shooting through his body didn't even compare to the pain in his heart. Jewel was dead, and his last words to her had been...
I don't care for you. I only care for Feathers. Bullet released another howl and scrambled to his sister's side, licking her muzzle desperately.
"It's not true Jewel! It's not true! I love you! Sister! Don't go! I love you!" Bullet screamed, placing a paw on his sister's shoulder. His emerald gaze observed her for a moment in silence, then he collapsed into tears once more, his whole body shaking as he allowed his head to fall to the floor, eyes screwed shut.

Once the blood-curdling howl had left her jaws, Lou rested her weary head on her paws, sobbing softly. She could make out Jewel's body through her blurry vision and tore her occuli away, focussing instead on the six little bundles beside her belly.
Jewel's cubs were noticably smaller then the other four and Lou knew she must make sure they weren't pushed out of the way by her own children. Hedwig, it seemed, was the dominant one.
Lou let out a deep sigh and her gaze lingered once more on her departed sister. Would Jewel want her to be sad for her? The white femme decided to think positive. All Jewel's pain was over. She was no longer suffering. And surely, where she was now, she could look over her two little cubs.
Just then, Bullet Scarlet burst into the cave. Lou's hackles, which had risen the moment she's seen movement, flattened and her visionaries began to fill once more with fresh tears.
"Oh Bullet ... it's awful ..." she broke away as her brother realised what had happened and lunged to Jewel's side, shouting. Lou's auds sank against her skull and her lids closed; she wanted to block out his screaming ... it was too much.
"Bullet ... " Lou whispered, unsure what she wanted to say. Her eyes opened, just in time to see her brother throwing himself against the cave wall.
"Bullet, NO!" she barked, thinking the worst; Bullet could not kill himself!
Lou wanted to get up, to push him away from the wall, to stop him hurting herself. But she knew she had to keep her cubs warm.
"Bullet ... please ... !"

Bullet was lost in a world of painful memories. Hurtful words echoed in his ears. Some of them his own. But they meant nothing to him now. They were trivial. No, the thing that caused his breathing to stop, that filled him with a burning desire to hurt himself and everything else around him was the wretched site that had burned itself into his mind. The site of his sister, Jewel. Bullet's eyes opened, filled with rage. His blood was boiling. He was not himself. He could not control himself. His anger had taken over. Overwhelming all over emotions. Crimson dyed gaze rested on Lou, and Bullet released a soft, menacing growl, lifting his lips to reveal powerful canines. He didn't care who she was. He didn't knwo who she was. All he knew was that his little sister was dead, and that he blamed everything, everyone, for it. Inculding himself.
Bullet half rose, muscles tense, ready to pounce at his other sister.
No, Bullet. Calm down. Be happy. For me. The voice was soothing and familiar. It relaxed his muscles and cooled his anger, filling him with peace. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
"I'm sorry," He mumbled, opening his eyes to meet Lou's gaze, his voice serious. He shook his head and padded over to her, bending his neck to lick her head.
"We must be strong," He whispered, before turning his atteention on the tiny puppies lying at Lou's side.
"Congratulations, Lou. They're beautiful." Bullet smiled, bending his head to lick the nearest pup to him tenerly.

Lou watched Bullet closely. He didn't seem to be listening to what she was saying, to absorbed in his grief and memories.
"Bullet ..." she repeated softly.
It was then that he turned on her, suddenly baring his teeth and growling. Fear rippled through the white femora and she too found herself agressive and protective. He would not hurt her cubs ...
But almost as soon as it had begun, it had ended. Bullet was his normal self again and was congratulating her. She eyed him carefully, unsure whether to trust him.
"Thank you ..." she said quietly, watching as he licked Afisch across the head.
Afisch wiggled and gave a little yip.

A warm, comforting smell filled the nares of the tiny white pup that was Jewel's first born, Jewel II. Her tiny mouth began to open and close like a fish, and she slowly squirmed towards Lou's belly, squeaking softly, her head swivelling from side to side as she tried to find the source of the scent without the help of her firmly shut eyes.
The black cub, Phoenix, began to do the same. He and his sister both soon began to suckle. Once they were full, they curled up in an untidy heap and fell into a deep sleep.
((The worst post! Ack! I can't rp newborn cubs! XP))
Bullet raised his eyes to look at Lou, instantly noticing the uneasy expression in her chocolate orbs. A knot formed in his stomach. He couldn't bare the fact that Lou was wary of him.
"I truly am sorry, Lou. I'll never, ever hurt you," He whispered seriously, holding her gaze for a moment, unblinking.
Then, Bullet lifted his head to look outside, auds perked. The sky was dark, and the moon was out, staring, blank and cold, down at the earth. The eldest Scarlet sibling sighed, turning to his deceased sister. He padded over to her and bent his muzzle, touching the tip against hers.
"Good night, Jewel. Sleep well, little sister," Bullet closed his eyes for a moment, then turned back to Lou, padding over to her and curling up by her side.
"Sleep, Lou. You've been through a lot." The dark brute murmered, resting his head on his large paws. It was a long time until he finally drifted off.

Lou felt the movement of Jewel's cubs and she licked them both across the heads as she had done with her own young. She then faced Bullet, his words soft and reassuring. She smiled warmly at him, knowing that what he said was true, before brushing her tounge against his maw.
Her dark occuli were fixed on her brother as he said goodnight to Jewel's body, almost as if nothing had happened ... Lou swallowed the lump which came suddenly to her throat.
"What will happen to ... to her body?" she asked softly, but Bullet was already fast asleep by her side. Lou released a sigh.
"Goodbye Jewel," she said for the last time before her lids slowly closed ...

Ghost paused breifly outside the cave, sides heaviling, tongue rolling for he had burned tracks to get there. He was still slightly damp from his swim, but all traces of rabies and the fight had vanished.
The birthing cave? What? Has a pup been born stillborn? He asked himself, head co-cked slightly.
Mothers are protective of their young. SHould I enter? He pondered as he paced into the cave, auds so erect they touched.
He stopped at the mouth and blinked to allow his eyes to adjust to the darkness.
There at the back laid three wolves, the Beta female and six pups. Healthy. He observed. And there was the Beta's brother, Bullet. He remembered Bullet, for Bullet had provided for him and helped his mother when he was still a suckling. But, somethings different about him... He thought, still trying to asses what the howl had been about.
His gaze drifted over to a small body, and it took a few minutes before Ghost recognized who it belonged to.
Ghost blinked hard and ventured further into the cave. Somethings wrong! His mind screamed. HE was aware of how protective mothers were of their pups, but right now, he wasn't interested in them.
"Jewel?" He questioned, slinking forward and nudging her with his nose.
But she was cold, not an ordianry cold, but the cold that only death brings...
Ghost snapped up and snarled, hackles raising. He looked up at the siblings, violet eyes blazing.
"Keeper. I fetch Alpha." He growled.
And spinning violently, Ghost leapt out of the cave, paws flying as he zoomed to the river.

Bullet's head snapped up at the sound of a gruff voice. He had been sleeping lightly. A low growl trembled in his throat and he half rose to his feet, hackles bristling.
But it was only Ghost. Bullet recognised the wolf, starting as he realised how much the pup he once knew had grown. Had he really been brooding for that long...?
Bullet stepped forwards as Ghost walked to Jewel, emerald eyes sad, jaws opening to speak. But Ghost darted off again before he even had time to offer his condolences. Bullet watched him go with a sigh, plopping down beside his sister once more and resting his head on his paws.
