Geez. All I have done today is run my head off. The white direwolf thought harshly as he made his way to the lake. He stopped and spied the lake and with a bit of a joyess howl, he plunged forth into the cold waters of the late, spoiling the mirror effect as he made waves.
Bouncing slightly, Ghost plundged deeper into the lake, panting a bit as he progressed further into the deeper portions.
Finally! Some time to myself! And some time to relax! Ghost thought. And for the first time in a while, the white brute felt happy. No more worries about hateful newcomers that needed to be put in their place. No more worries about his missing mother and brother. No more worries about his departed father. And no more worries about fights and rabies.
Taking a deep breath, Ghost dived in deep. Water filled his ears, but the fearless brute kept his eyes open. He blinked and stared at the bottom of the lake, watching the fish dart.
Maybe I can catch one... The brute thought.
But then, the water echo'd around him, making his hackes raise, even though he was under water. The sound was wretched, horrible as it engulfed him.
Ghost growled and pushed up towards the surface.
As he erupted, the sound was fading fast, but the smart brute could tell it was a howl. A howl of one of the pack.
Not moving, not breathing, Ghost floated, his auds straining as he listened hard. But there was nothing. Only silence.
There I go, just imagin------ Ghost was cut off mid thought as another wretched howl, one of pain and loss filled and echo'd around his head.
Ghost growled and swam hard towards sh-ore, his great lungs straining.
Something's not... right. Ghost thought as he broke upon the sh-ore, shaking hard to rid himself of some on the water.
And as soon as he could, the white beast reared up and spun, heading towards the cave, head low, paws flying, where the awful howl had began.......
