The wolf lifted her yellow-white mitts high and placed them carefully and quietly in the scattered leaves. Slender, grey-white muzzle was lowered to the ground, sniffing deeply as the wolf paused. Her amber eyes glowed in the cool autumn air.
The femme trotted onwards, still taking caution as to where her yellow-white paws, flecked with grey in places, landed. Her fur was a deep red, spotted with black, highlighting around her ruff and skull and streaming down her back, to where it caressed the tip of her plume a midnight hue. her chest and underbelly faded into a creamy yellow-white.
She halted to take the air in through her naires, ears swiveling as she listened for sounds in the air. Kalito whuffed slightly as the stale, faintest scent of humans reached her, and loped swiftly onwards. Stronger still was the scent of a healthy, large, thriving wolf pack. Maybe this is it, Kalito thought, her amber optics alighting. Excitement filled her as she let out a long howl, asking for acceptance.
The femme checked her posture, lowering her head and dropping her tail between her hind legs. A happy, easy-going smile still played upon her maw as she waited.

The steady crunch of leaves, and panting in the fall air was discernable amongst the other sounds of the forest. Here and there a muscular brown chassis brushed against some dry sticks. The howl, from a femora, it sounded, resonated from the deserted village, with the decrepit huts and ancient scent of humans lingering.
Achilles didn't visit this place often, had no reason to. Perhaps he would take his pups there one day so they could know what a human smells like should they ever have the misfortune of meeting one, but otherwise he stayed away.
His expression was stern, he learned to be not-too-friendly with newcomers, half were smart-alek's the other half were well-meaning wolven, seeing as he could never tell the difference on first glance he treated them all the same.
And it was no different as he approached the multi-hued fae, who was already showing the proper signs of submission, save for a smile on her maw that Aki classified as somewhat goofy.
Black auds trained on the fae, and mismatched orbits locked to her form as he slowed down, then halted a few meters from her, dial held at appropriate altitude for a mascu' of his size and rank.
"Hello. . . may I ask why you have come to our borders?"
Per'aps it was customary to introduce oneself, but Aki wasn't keen on giving out his name to a wolf he'd only seen once. And not all wolven that came across borders requested entrance to a pack. . some would ask for an alliance, or bring warning of disease. It just depended.

Kalito's ears pricked sharply as she caught the sound of heavy breathing and leaves crackling under paw. The fae's mitts shifted briefly, scattering and crackling leaves, before she quieted herself. She kept her posture, tail and dial lowered, but still could not seem to banish the friendly, happily submissive grin stretched over her maw. Her amber eyes turned to the male, yet avoided his gaze.
Kal's ears swiveled as the large brute addressed her. His tone and posture labeled him as a wolf with some authority, and one who knew what to do with it. Her tone appeasing, Kalito voiced her reply:
"Greetings. They call me Kalito. I come from lands far to the South, seeking a pack to join. I was hoping for acceptance here."
Maybe not as well-spoken as it could have been, but Kal had never worried with that. Her maw still held the lopsided, friendly smile, and her plume was waving slightly, beating against her hocks. She turned her bright, shining amber orbs to the one who had greeted her, some-what patiently awaiting his reply. The leaves shifted; Kalito's playful, excitable nature - quite unusual in one who had seen five winters - getting the better of her.

Achilles was puzzled at this fae. . .she seemed very happy go lucky, and restless. :: A lot like a pup:: he noted as she shifted a bit, smiling her goofy smile, rustling the leaves, and wagging her tail. He pondered for a moment and then met her amber orbs with his own mismatched ones; dark blue and sea green.
"And what assets do you have that would strengthen our pack? He inquired, but it seemed to him that her biggest asset would be her optimism. A few of the wolves, namely Bullet and Jewel, were acting mopey and needed someone to cheer them up. :: Would she make a good mate for Bullet? Or a good friend for Jewel? Is she a good hunter? Good hunters are hard to come by. . .:: His mind raced with all these possibilities, as he kept his stiff posture and stern features. He felt like being more responsible and trying to be the best beta possible, especially since he had Lou as a mate, and wanted to set the best example for her.

Kalito had been asked this question times before. it had always seemed a mystery - what was the friendly fae there for? She had never been the best hunter, since she had lived in a sanctuary for two years of her life. Continuing her smile - which was almost always there anyways - she shyly met Achille's eyes and replied.
"I will do whatever is needed of me in the pack," Kal said slowly, showing that she was willing to help and try even if it was something she wasn't skilled with. "But I know some medicine for injuries. And... She considered her words carefully. She did not know if the pack even had pups, or if they needed her help with them. But it came out anyways. "...I'm good with pups.
She waited as quietly as she could while apprehending the brute's answer, and forced herself to still her wagging tail.

Inwardly, Achilles was impressed by what she said. She was willing to do whatever she could to help the pack. :: A healer. . .and good with pups.:: The Moors needed both. What they didn't need was another wolf with issues.
The brows of the brown brute raised a bit as he reclined in the leaves, considering her words. :: She seems sincere. . .:: Unlike the tale just told by Ghost's howl of a black newcomer killing a rabid wolf, and Ghost killing the black one. Aki didn't know anything other than what was relayed by the direwolf's triumphant howl.
He spoke again, hoping Kalito hadn't heard the howl, or if she had, that she didn't pay attention to the message within it.
"By what you have told me you're skilled in, it seems to me you would fit in, and never lack for anything to do. So. . . "
And now the earth tinted brute with obsidian points rose to his mitts again, padded till he was a a mere foot from the multi-hued fae with cream paws, and bowed to the one with the eternal smile.
He looked up before he said his last bit, "I would like to welcome you to Misty Moors, Kalito. My name is Achilles. I am beta male of these lands."
He resumed his proud posture and added, "Might I add that before you go exploring, you may want to introduce yourself to Keeper or Taint. They are the alphas here, and would be pleased to meet you." He said this not only because she should familiarize herself with the Alpha pair, but also because those two had pups, which Kalito said she was good with, and it would release Cloud from pup-duty. Cloud had just been announced as deputy lead hunter, and Aki felt that the pack needed a good hunt. It had been forever since the last one, and many new wolven had joined since.
Plus he was hungry.

Kailto's reddish ears swiveled at the howl, and a paw shifted uneasily, throwing about the leaves. But the curious fae regained self control and turned her amber orbs once again on Achilles, her body quivering excitedly as she watched him consider her request. Too restless to sit down, Kal allowed her tongue to hang out of her maw as she panted comfortably.
When the brute spoke finally, she held herself back from leaping into the air. Her smile broadened, if that was possible, and she allowed her plume to raise slightly and beat the air.
"Thank you Achilles!" Kalito yipped like the five-year-old pup she seemed too be inside. "I'd love to meet the alphas, I'll go do that. She darted forwards to give the beta's chin a quick, thankful lick before trotting past him and into the Misty Moors. She paused for a moment, tongue lolling and amber orbs bright, tail waving. The wolf blushed under her fur as she turned to Achilles once more.
"Uh...where might I find the alpha and alphena?" Kal asked sheepishly, grinning. She longed to explore the land, to get to know the other wolves whom she could now call her pack; to wander around freely. But she restrained herself as she waited for his answer.

Achilles felt shy around this exuberant fae, and her estatic reaction to being accepted. He moved his muscular chassis from her path, just as she licked him gratefully. He was reminded more and more of a frisky rabbit every moment he was around her.
He noted that she was panting with pent up energy. :: Wow! I wonder how old she is to have that much energy?:: He pondered while she was trotting away, but another question from the fae snapped his mind back in place.
"Where. . .?" He shrugged his brown shoulders, and licked his charcoal maw thoughtfully. "I. . .uhh. . don't know. If you see another wolf, just ask them." He paused, and then added something else. "You may want to refrain from going to the river at this moment though. He remembered Ghost's howl, but had no idea that both alphas were there at this precise moment."If you are thirsty there is a lake close to the forest's outskirts."
And he looked away now, feeling as if he'd said enough.

Kalito gave a grin, her paws dancing as she stalled herself for a moment longer to thank him. "Thank you, and thanks again!" She barked happily, tail waving as she bounded off through the leaves. She had nearly forgotten about the howl from one of the wolves; she was too busy being excited about her acceptance to the new pack, and had gone in the complete opposite direction.
I can't wait to meet the other wolves. I wonder if any of them have pups? Questions raced through the fae's mind as she loped away, following her wriggling, leathery nose to where the scent of wolves was strongest.
ooc: Hah, I guess I'll take her to the Second Cave. xD I modeled her after one of my dogs, who is around ten and acts more like a puppy than our puppy does...O.o

"No problem. . . The muscular brown and black brute muttered as the exhuberant fae of many hues bounded off happily, looking so much like a cub in adult skin. When Kalito had mentioned she was good with pups it had gotten the beta to thinking. Now he was staring at the leaves on the ground, his mismatched glance unfocused. He maw was open slightly, as sometimes happens when one debating with himself. ::Would it be a good idea? What would Taint think? Maybe I should ask Lou about it? Would I be a good father?::
He snapped his mouth shut at that, looking up at the trees, whose foliage was quickly thinning with the approach of the winter. He reclined to his haunches, hearing the crunch of the leaves he'd just sat on, and biting his lip thoughtfully.

Sitting there for a while, the chocolate male was thankful for the snow that was piling around him now. He had been in thought for a long time, sleeping and going to get water, but always returning to the borders, as if he was guarding something, or looking for something.
With odd hued orbs he watched the large flakes of snow fall to the ground in clumps, remembering the color of the crystals as the same hue as his mate. He didn't know where she was at the moment, probably still consoling Jewel, if he knew anything about females, but he wanted to ask her something. :: Something important:: he said to himself, settling to lay in the snow and roll around a bit in it. The earthen and midnight hued beta liked snow, unlike some wolven. The only thing he didn't like was sitting still in it for too long, as it tended to accumulate on him in uncomfortable piles.

Padding along came a snowy-hued femora who's pace, as the scent of Achilles grew stronger, quickened.
"Achilles!" Lou said happily, as the figure of the beta male came into view. Her plume wagged with her gait as she trotted towards him and sat herself by his side.
"Hello again," she yipped, giving Achilles' maw a swift lick.

((Yes, that could work))
Achilles blinked his pools against the snow, thinking he spied a shape that blended only too perfectly in hue and quiet gracefulness with the falling white stuff. He squinted, recognized, and they stood up, earthen plume working overtime.
T'was his mate Lou, who'd been helping with another femora, whilst he wandered to the borders to accept a pack member.
She called his name, trotted closer, her banner beating in time with her pace, and settled down next to him, giving him a swift kiss.
He sat down again, willing himself to control his tail. He placed an affectionate kiss 'pon the swan fae's forehead, and asked
"So, how was Jewel?"
:: That was stupid of me! That's not what I meant to say! Gah!:: He berated himself, then figured that he would have to ease himself in to the conversation that he wanted to bring up. He flashed a shy smile at Lou, trying to hide his own mistake.

Lou smiled with joy as Achilles licked her forehead and felt suddenly peaceful and as light as a feather, all the world's troubles trickling slowly away until ...
"So how was Jewel?"
The chalky fae came suddenly back to earth, feeling a twinge of guilt that she had forgotten so easily of her sister's woe. Could she really feel happy if Jewel was not?
But that's unfair ... said a voice in her head. Lou sighed softly, wondering how much she could tell Achilles as it was, after all, Jewel's business.
"She is feeling upset and lonely because of October's disappearance ... I really don't know what I could do to help her,"
Lou suddenly caught the shy expression on her mate's maw and felt a rush of affection for him.
"And what have you been up to?" she then asked, looking at him fondly.

"Umm. . ." Achilles tried to say something supportive about Jewel's situation, but nothing came to mind. He wasn't cut for the /female/ things like that. But Lou had caught his goofy grin and now asked him what was up with him.
The brown and black brute was caught off guard by what his mate said. Both orbs widened and his gaze quickly darted to his mitts, or where they would have been if it were not from the snow. Had his fur been of a lighter shade, he could have easily been seen to have been blushing. "I was. . .thinking. . ." He choked back his words, and snapped his maw shut.

Lou gave Achilles a nod and a small smile as he struggled to find words about Jewel, showing that she understood. Her jaws parted as she was about to say something else when Achilles, once more, looked embarassed, his eyes having danced to his paws.
"What is it?" Lou asked kindly, her chalky plume beating the ground slowly. She was curious to know what it was he wanted to say.
