Heavy footfalls kissed the barren earth as Ghost padded up the slope, his eyes trained on the stone "door" of the cairn.
Ghost slowed as he approached the door, feeling slightly uneasy. He growled lowly and placed a rough pad on the door. Feeling more restless, Ghost backed up and looked at his paw, unable to picture just what made him just do that....
But Ghost didn't have too long to ponder as the stone suddenly make a shaky jerk, and began to roll out of his way.
What the-? Ghost growled and he backed up further, his hackles standing up around Raif's stiff body. A strange breeze stirred the air and Ghost snarled as he caught it's meaning.
Magic. Old magic of the old Gods. Oh Adon! Ghost thought, but stubbonly held his ground.
And just as soon as it had started, the stone quickly rolled to a halt, allowing enough room for Ghost to enter. Ghost sighed and padded forth, walking on his tiptoes, ready to fight whatever would do him harm as he entered the cave.
But none cave. Ghost exhaled slowly and blinked, allowing his eyes to adjust to the murky light of the cave.
And there around him laid other members of the Moors.
His hackles raised involuntarily as eye-less skulls stared back at him.
Who's bones are these? Is all Ghost could ask himself as he looked at the old alpha's, Buck and Tundra. But he didn't know their names.
With a bit of another pent-up breath, Ghost turned away from the bones and ventured back into the depths of the cairn.
His hackles raised again as he located another set of bones, but he pushed past them.
But then, he located a flat spot of upraised rock. Finally! Ghost breathed.
Siding up to the rock, Ghost rolled his left shoulder to free Raif from his body.
Ghost stepped back and looked over it.
Good. At least the stiffing made my job easier. Ghost though morbidly as he turned away from the body to leave.
Stepping out into the fresh sun, Ghost blinked and sighed.
But that didn't last for long.
The stone jerked into motion, causing the white brute to turn and face it, violet eyes shining and daggers bared. He watched it closly and sighed, finally feeling somewhat at ease.
But there was something else that needed to be done.
Above the stone laid the engraved names of all that were laid to rest in the cave.
And Ghost had a name to add.
Rearing up on his hind legs, Ghost etched:
[glow=purple,2,300]Raif: May your soul find peace now[/glow]
Stepping down, Ghost looked up and nodded once, proud of himself.
And with that, he turned sharply and galloped down the small slope, heading towards the Mirror Lake to wash the stench of death and rabies off.....
